Sultan Sands Hotel

Sultan Sands Hotel

The Sultan Sands Hotel is situated on the east coast of Zanzibar, approximately 1 hours drive from the International airport. It is set next to its sister hotel, the Blue Bay Beach Resort & Spa, on the beach at Kiwengwa amidst 25 acres of landscaped gardens that contain over 1000 palm trees. It is named for the Omani Sultans that used to rule the island of Zanzibar many years ago.

There are 76 rooms, divided between 2 room types. The 56 Pwani rooms are the newer rooms, set in the gardens facing the ocean. The rooms are arranged as split level, with a seating area on the lower level. The 20 Bahari rooms are the original hotel rooms but have been refurbished and modernised, although the size and structure of this room type does vary from room to room. They are set right at the ocean edge with sea views.

All of the rooms are single storey rondavels and have 1 King size or 2 Queen sized beds, ensuite facilities, mosquito nets, a separate dressing area, a veranda, air –conditioning, ceiling fan, a mini bar and satellite TV. Each is furnished in a traditional Zanzibari style which adds to the unique African feel of the resort.

There is a choice of eateries at the resort. The main restaurant, Mwambao, is situated with views over the swimming pool and serves breakfast and themed dinners for those guests who are booked on half board, full board or all-inclusive meal plans.

The Kivuli Bar and restaurant, located on the beach, serves salads, sandwiches and tapas type food during the day. There are also 2 bars at the resort. The Mawimbi Bar serves drinks around the pool area and on the beach whilst the Casablanca Lounge offers guests late night entertainment as well as cocktails until the early hours.

As well as a swimming pool, the resort offers a water sports centre where guests can try their hand at a variety of sports to include windsurfing, kayak sailing, hobie cats and body boarding. The sports facilities are wide and varied to include tennis, beach volleyball, table tennis, cycle hire and board games such as backgammon to name but a few of the activities available.

For guests who want to treat themselves, look no further than the Oasis Spa. Set at the edge of the beach, this Spa facility uses spices and other natural ingredients to rejuvenate the body and elevate the mind.
