Located in the busy heart of Stonetown, capital of the exotic island of Zanzibar, the Swahili House was originally a 19th century Indian Merchants house. Following this, it became home to one of the many Sultan families before becoming a hotel a number of years ago. Situated in the centre of the capital, the bustling market, shops and restaurants are all within easy reach from the hotel.

Arranged over 5 floors built around a courtyard, the 22 rooms are divided into 3 categories. All rooms are reached by either by lift or the traditional Zanzibari staircases. The Sultan Suites are large, spacious rooms with balconies. The Suites are medium size rooms, some with and some without balconies whilst the deluxe rooms are of standard size with no balconies. All rooms have been restored and decorated in traditional Swahili style, with air conditioning, ceiling fans and en-suite bathrooms.

The rooftop terrace, a special place at this hotel, houses the bar, restaurant and a very relaxing Jacuzzi overlooking the fabulous Indian Ocean. The a la carte menu features a fine combination of eastern and western cuisine, fresh fish and seafood and tapas as well as a large variety of wines and cocktails.

The Swahili House is a sparkling hotel with traditional influences and modern day facilities in combination with authentic Swahili hospitality and easy access to the sights of Zanzibar’s capital.
